John Smith was born at Hednesford, Staffordshire on 19 June 1892. He died on 7 April 1916 in an accident in E30 in which there were explosions in Nos. 1, 2 & 3 batteries.  Three other crew members also died in this accident. He is buried in Blyth Cemetery grave C.72.
