Frederick Brett's older son, Richard Frederick Brett, born 1909 at Ilford, Essex, emigrated to Aotearoa New Zealand in 1925 to train as a farmer at Flock House, near Palmerston North, with the financial support of the NZ Sheepowners' Acknowledgement of Debt to British Seamen Fund. He became a dairy farmer but, having served with the RNZAF as a leading aircraftman in the Second World War, went on to work as an engineer in Gisborne. He died in 1985.
